AWS

Overview

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is the world’s largest cloud platform. It provides servers, databases, file storage and hundreds of other services, paid for as you use them.

How I Use AWS

I deploy and run production apps on AWS. A typical setup uses EC2 for the app servers, RDS for a managed PostgreSQL database, S3 for files and CloudFront to deliver them quickly. For work that runs on demand, I use Lambda, with SQS and SNS passing jobs between services.

Security and reliability come first: a private network (VPC), least-privilege access with IAM, automatic database backups and CloudWatch alarms that flag problems early. Servers can scale up on their own when traffic grows.

Why AWS

It’s reliable and secure, and it has data centres in the UK, so data can stay in the country. You pay for what you use, so an app can start small and grow without a rebuild. Almost any need, from email to AI, has a managed service ready to use.
